Euonymus Japonicus

Euonymus japonicus

For something a little different for a Flower a Day, I am sharing a fruit cluster from our euonymus bush. It is as pretty as a flower and, after all, is the whole purpose of the flowers that are there underneath this cluster. I hope your day is, or has been, a good one wherever you are.

  1. I agree, Ellie..maybe not as showy as the roses or the cyclamen, but just as pretty in their own right. This species of euonymus has what is called ‘winged’ fruit which, when they ripen, give them the look you’ve captured, of clusters. Sadly the fruit and flowers of the euonymus are not considered ornamental characteristics, being overshadowed by the lovely various and variegated evergreen leaves. However, at this time of year, when most other flowers and fruit have faded and gone, they are a most welcome bit of colour and texture to brighten the dulling days. Thank you.

  2. Lovely Ellie I enjoy that bright pop of Orange in the flower bud. I’m going to have a look at that in the spring I guess I never noticed at your place before.
