Dancng Fuchsia
Now this is a real blast from the past, as I wanted something rich to follow yesterday’s gold (brass) button. Is there anything more royal and rich in colour than this beautiful fuchsia? The photo was one of the first I took for the project, all the way back in July 2020, when this was all still fairly new for us all. Happily this was waiting in the wings to feature today, months on, when we all still need happy flower posts. What particularly appealed, in addition to the beautiful colours, were the dainty stamens that look like a little girl’s slippers as she is lifted up to dance, by a loving parent, feet dangling as they sway together around the dance floor. Sending such happy thoughts to you all today with this beautiful Dark Eyes Fuchsia. Flower a Day #471 View all posts on the Home page.

December 21 Gallery :
A gallery of flowers shared on a daily basis to cheer myself and hopefully you, the viewer too, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic period. Posts from December 2021

Whenever I see these two bright colours together, I always think of the Red Hat Society which was established for women of a certain age(over 50) who declared they had earned the right to do what they wished and no longer had to follow social conventions. The signature poem, the Warning (by Jenny Joseph), which opens with the lines: “when I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me…”. By combining these two bold and seemingly unsuited colours, a woman thereby declares she is of a mindset to do just as she pleases. Nothing carries off this thought more delightfully than this fuschia. I second this notion and join her in her dance. Thank you, Ellie, for this symbol of liberation.
Oh yes! I do remember you mentioning that RedHat Society, back in the summer when I posted a photograph of the same flower. I’m glad to remind y0ou that we are past the age where we can wear what we want without being concerned with possible censure. I love that, but I shall for this one always see those little girl’s swaying slippers as her parent swirls her around the dance floor! And I shall wear what I like while I see them. 🙂
I love this fuchsia… one of my all time favs! Your description is perfect.
I’m so glad you see this as I do, Lynne. Each time I look at it, or think of it, I see those sweet feet swaying to the music high in the air! The colour of this one is one of my favourites, too. Thanks Lynne. xo
What a lovely description of that flower Ellie. You can visualize that scene in your mind. Love those flowers my mom always had them. Always amazed at the contrasting color between those two petals. hope you have a great day hugs to you and Steve.
Thanks again, Linda. I love hearing of how my posts remind them of loved ones, such as your mother. The contrasts are beautiful. I think these are in the basement, waiting for Spring to awaken them again next year.
